The first time I heard of the Inspiral Carpets was when I read that Noel Gallagher began his entry into the music business by working for the band as a roadie. Oasis engineer Owen Morris also worked for the Inspirals at the time. After releasing four studio LPs, they split in 1995 and reformed eight years later in 2003. In 2011 the band were reunited with original lead singer Stephen Holt after frontman Tom Hingley quit. And now the Oldham five piece return with their first album in two decades, simply titled 'The Inspiral Carpets'. Intended as a continuation of the directions the band were heading towards in the early pre-Hingley days, the twelve track LP arrives on September 29 and is released via the Cherry Red label. From it here is the new single 'Spitfire' which was released a week or so ago, and available to buy now on 7" vinyl. Clint Boon's organ lines are as enticing as ever.
