Tough Questions From Christian Teens – How Do We Thank God For Jesus’ Death On The Cross?

By Mmcgee

Children who grow up in Christian homes often have very soft hearts. They sometimes see things in ways Christian adults might not consider. This next question demonstrates the sensitivity of a Christian teen toward God's greatest gift.

"God died on the cross for our salvation. He didn't do it for him he did it for us so that we could be saved. Is there a way of showing our gratitude to him enough to measure up to that?"

Great question!

You are right. Jesus, God's Son, died for us and deserves all our praise. I don't think there's any way we can show enough gratitude to measure up to His supreme sacrifice. What we can do is obey Him, praise Him and thank Him.

The prophet Samuel had a serious talk with King Saul of Israel. Saul thought he had done a good thing by disobeying God so he could make a special sacrifice to God. Here's what Samuel told Saul -

"Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams." 1 Samuel 15:22

1 Samuel 15:22

That's a clue for us - obeying God is better than any sacrifice we can make. Jesus made the one sacrifice that is the best - His death on the cross.

There is one 'sacrifice' God does like for us to make and that's the sacrifice of praise, giving thanks to God -

"Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name."

Hebrews 13:15

God loves to hear our praise and thankfulness. That's another thing we can do that pleases God and shows Him how much we appreciate Jesus' death and resurrection.

Obedience, praise and thankfulness are three things we can do that pleases God. We can never do 'enough' to measure up to the great things God has done for us, but we can do what pleases Him. We learn about how to please Him by reading and studying our Bible. You can do a search for the words 'obey, obedience, praise, thanks, thankfulness, please, pleasing' to learn more about what we can do in our response to God for His many, many gifts to us.

Thanks for your question! Hope this answer helps.
