Top Ten Tuesdays: Top Recent Reads

Today, the bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish have asked us to list our recent 5-star reads.

Since I rarely classify books as 5-stars, let's face it, no book is perfect, I am instead going to list the top ten books I read and loved recently.

1. Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson - This book was sitting on my shelf for ages. I don't know why I never picked it up before (probably the gloomy cover did not attract me), but once I started reading it, I loved this slow, melancholic tale about life and racism in a small town in America. Here's a teaser from the book.
2. The Martian by Andy Weir - Loved the humor in this book. A funny read was not what I was expecting when I picked this book up, but the self-deprecating humor in this book totally slayed me.
3. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare - Fun YA Fantasy novel, a little predictable but I loved some of the main characters (read heroes), and I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
4. Me Before You by JoJo Moyes - It's a sad book true, but I liked how well it was written, and yes, it had me sobbing in the end.
5. The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith - I can't say I totally loved this book. There were some slow sections, but there must have been something very interesting about this book, because I went out and picked the first book in the series - The Cuckoo's Calling, and am totally immersed in it. I see myself going all the way with this series.
6. The Burning Room by Michael Connelly - Harry Bosch and Michael Connelly back to their near best (after a series of misses). There was nothing to dislike in this one.
7. Wolf Hall by Hillary Mantel - Loved this book, loved the writing style, loved Cromwell, loved everything. Can't wait to get to the next one in this series.
8. The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters - This was my first experience reading Sarah Waters books' and even though it had its issues, I loved how she combined post-war decay in an aristocratic household with a spooky ghost story.
9. Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer - This was an exciting fast-paced read, and I thought this chronicle of a real life accident on Everest was more thrilling than most fictional novels.
10. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J.Maas - I speed read all Sarah J.Maas' books last year, and though I loved them all, I think this book hands down was the most exciting one.
