Top Ten Tuesdays: Ten Halloween Books I Want to Read

Posted on the 27 October 2015 by Cheekymeeky

Today, the bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish have given us a Halloween-themed freebie.

I chose this opportunity to list the books I am reading this month for Halloween in the mystery, thriller, or horror genre. I will also include other books that I have on my TBR list that will serve as a reminder for when I am scrambling around for books to read next Halloween.

Top Ten Tuesdays: Ten Halloween Books I Want to Read

Here we go:

  1. Before I go to Sleep by S.J.Watson - I read this book last week while traveling to Chennai. It made the perfect travel read, but it wasn't particularly horrifying or thrilling. Unfortunately.
  2. Drood by Dan Simmons - I am currently in the middle of this one. It's a sort of spooky ghost story featuring Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins hunting down a murderous being that may or may not be super-natural in nature. I can't say much more than that because I haven't got further than that. However, it is pretty spooky and gory. Here's a teaser.
  3. Christine by Stephen King - No Halloween can be complete without a Stephen King mention.
  4. The Shining by Stephen King - Another of his books I've long been meaning to read. I will probably keep this for next year though as I don't really want to do SK novels back to back.
  5. The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters - This is a gothic ghost story by Sarah Waters. It made into the Man Booker shortlist (in 2009 I think), and I am just itching to get to this one.

  7. The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson - This is classic horror. It's been on my Classics Club reading list for ages, but again I doubt I"ll be able to get to this one this year.
  8. We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson - Ditto, same as above. I am a little conflicted as to which of her two books I should read first. What I do know is I am definitely going to read both of them.
  9. Ghost Story by Peter Straub - I have never read any of his books, but he seems to be one of the more popular horror writers out there, and I think this pick might scare the wits off me.
  10. Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin - The movie is one of my all-time favorites, and I need to get to the book it is based on someday.
  11. The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson - During my teen years, I went on a horror binge for a long time until my grandma concerned with how my psyche might be getting affected banned me from reading them. I was forced to return my copy of this book to the library unread, and I totally forgot about it. Until I started compiling this list. Back on my TBR list it goes.

Are you reading any mystery, thriller, or horror for Halloween? Which books would you recommend I try?
