5 inexpensive top predator insects for indoor gardens

  1. Ladybugs-  These delicate ladies are in fact EATING Machines.  And what do they like to eat, well, spider mites, spider mite egg, aphids, thrips, just to name a few.  These ravenous femaleswill actually reproduce faster if you have a serious infestation because they have soooooooo much to eat.
  2. Predatory Mites- I know, they sound like Spider Mites but they actually LOVE to eat “the Borg”.  They flourish when there are infestations just like Ladybugs.  Just let they hungry devils out of the bag and watch out Spider mites here come Predator Mites.  Reminds me of an 1980′s film hmmm…..
  3. Green Lacewing- Lacewing larvea are the actual major predator when it comes to aphids, spider mites, thrips etc.  This larval stage lasts 2-4 weeks in which a larvea can eat up to 600 aphids.  WOW!!!  Green Lacewings can also be released along side Ladybugs and Praying Mantis.
  4. Praying Mantis-Kung Fu Masters of bug eating put nearly in their place…in the stomach of the praying mantis.  All bugs except the good old Ladybug. Mix the quick growth with long life and the praying mantis may become your favorite predator insect for your indoor garden.
  5. Beneficial Nematodes-These microscopic organisms destroy pests that live underground. They will seek out and destroy more than 230 different kinds of soil dwelling and wood boring insects, including Japanese beetles, cut worms, wire worms, weevils, white grubs, fungus gnat larvae, flea larvae, subterranean termites, and many more. They are so small that several thousand would fit on the head of a pin! But they do a big job –moving through the ground, they enter the body cavities of their target pests and release bacteria that kill that pest. They are completely safe for people, pets, and the environment, and are compatible with other beneficial insects.
