Top Five for 2025: London, Paris, Chester and Chichester!

By Carolineld @carolineld

It's hard to believe that this blog is over 17 years old. That does mean it's always fun to look back over past posts, and the new year is a good time to find out which were most popular - of this year's new pieces, and of all time. Click on their titles to read more.

2025

Collage of images including a Parisian passageway, St Pancras Station, statue of Thomas Brassey, a 'to the lifts' sign, and a postbox engulfed by a tree
  1. PostBoxTree - a quirky blend of nature and street furniture in Chelsea
  2. Railway stations! - introduction to a fantastic new site on Europe's finest stations
  3. Wooden paving in Paris - a rare survivor and some road surface history
  4. Hidden signs of Green Park - old signage and the Underground are two of my favorite things, and obviously my readers', too
  5. Chester's newest statue: Thomas Brassey - another railway contribution

All-time

Collage of images including a building facade awkwardly propped in front of a new building, a clock with wishbone hanging from it, skulls, a spiral staircase and a road tunnel entrance
  1. Walking Rotherhithe Tunnel - I did it so you don't have to
  2. Shippam's of Chichester - the factory has gone from the town, but the quirky clock remains
  3. Paris: quarries and catacombs (2) - skulls and symbolism below Paris's streets
  4. St Paul's Cathedral Geometric Staircase - an eyecatching flight of history and architecture
  5. London's ugliest example of facadism? - although there is growing competition

 All the best for 2026!
