Hello my beautifuls, I hope you are doing good. I was going through some articles last week, and I came across a quote by actor Gerard Butler, " Be the hero of your own life story". I strongly loved these words and found them quite inspirational. I decided to list up a few films about great heroes who came as warriors. So today's topic is all about warrior movies, and here I have listed my all-time top 5 Warrior films.
Top 5 Warrior Movies to Watch This Weekend:
1. Gladiator: This 2000 film by Ridley Scott starring Russell Crowe tells the story of General Maximus Decimus, a Hispanic-Roman general from 180 AD, whom the Roman Emperor wanted to succeed after him. He was enslaved by a conspiracy by Commodus, the Roman Emperor's cruel son. When Commodus organised a 150-day game after his father's death, Maximus disguises himself as a Carthaginian and leads his army to victory. Impressed by his valour, Commodus declares him as the leader of the Gladiators, unknowingly that he is none other than his old enemy. Then the games follow, and Maximus shows his gallantry throughout, later finally killing the devilish Commodus but succumbing to his wounds. Before he dies, he urges the Senate to free other Gladiator allies and let them lead a free life of dignity. This film has won millions of hearts worldwide and won 5 Oscars, including Best Film and Best Actor Award for Crowe.
2. Braveheart: This film from 1995, directed by Mel Gibson, is another epic film in the history of warrior films. Gibson plays Sir William Wallace, a 13th Century Scottish warrior who was a legendary figure to initiate the first movement for Independence against England. The film still titillates people's minds because of the violent yet heart-wrenching last scenes, where Wallace is being tortured mercilessly ( read: disemboweled alive); even when he is given a last chance to ask for mercy, he is daring enough to ask for Freedom, instead. This movie won 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Gibson.
3. 300: This movie is another epic warrior saga on the legend of Sparta. This 2006 film, directed by Zack Snyder, has Gerard Butler, who plays Kind Leonidas. When King Xerxes of Persia asks for the submission of Sparta, King Leonidas refuses and instead agrees to fight for his motherland. Despite no support from the Ephors, he gathers some of his loyal men and prepares an army of 300 people to fight against the mighty Persian army. They fight with great courage till their last breath, and inspired by their valour, the Greek army later goes to fight the Persians along with 10000 Spartans.
4. Troy: Based on Homer's Iliad, this 2004 film is an ensemble cast of Brad Pitt as Achilles, Eric Bana as Hector, Orlando Bloom as Paris and Diane Kruger as Helen of Troy. Paris, the youngest son of King Priam of Troy, has an affair with Queen Helen, the wife of King Menelaus of Sparta. When Helen elopes with Paris to Sparta, the infuriated King Menelaus takes the help of the mighty Greek warrior Achilles to attack Troy. The War of Troy takes place, killing many, including Hector, by Achilles. Later, Paris killed Achilles and fled with Helen, but Greece captured Troy. Achilles and Hector remain the greatest warriors in mythology. Their gallantry and courage are inspiring to all. This movie is a definite watch.
5. Th Last Samurai: This 2003 film stars Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe in lead roles. It is about a late 19th-century soldier, Captain Algren (Cruise), who is sent to Japan to train the Imperial Japanese army to fight against a Samurai rebellion. When Algren leads the incapable Imperial army filled with peasants to fight against the Samurai army headed by Katsumoto(Watanabe), he is defeated and taken captive. After gaining their trust and respect, Algren becomes an integral part of their clan. Later the Samurais fight against the now powerful and capable Imperial Army, and Katsumoto leads a suicide cavalry squad along with Algren. Katsumoto, as Samurai tradition, kills himself to retain his honor rather than be killed by the enemy.
