Hey my beautifuls, I have been getting a lot of queries about taking care of skin post Holi. Frankly it has been years that I have played with colours. However, this year I am going for a Holi Bash and am quite worried about my skin getting affected by harsh chemicals in colours .Today, I have enlisted 5 such major beauty hacks to protect your skin from harmful effect of colour, and the ones that we can practically use to keep our skin and hair safe.

Top 5 Beauty Tips to Protect Your Skin & Hair from Holi Colours

How can Holi Colours affect skin and hair?

Holi colours can contain harsh chemicals that can be dangerous for skin and hair. It is better to play with toxin free organic colours that are plant derived. Many colours are made of beetroot powder, orange powder and so on.

Top 5 Beauty Tips to Protect Your Skin & Hair from Holi Colours

1. Oiling Hair: Oiling your hair at least thrice a week is very important prior and post Holi care. Any oil like coconut, almond or olive can protect hair by forming a thick layer over the strands. It is said that before playing with colours, a nice oil massage does the trick.

2. Skincare with Ubtan: Holi colours can leave patches of colours on the skin. It looks pretty weird and one may feel embarrassed to go out with color patches all over. Ubtan is a traditional Indian skincare recipe that has been used to brighten skin from ages. Typically it contains key ingredients like turmeric, chickpea powder, saffron. But nowadays, you can get similar benefits from the Ubtan Range from Mamaearth. It has some very effective products like face wash, serum and night mask that can help to get rid of color patches, even out skin and make it brighter and spotless. 3. Slugging: Slugging means to pile on moisturizer on your skin. One of the cheapest ways to follow this is to apply thick layer of petroleum jelly at night and you wake up to smooth baby-soft skin. This will ensure to keep any sort of chemical irritation, dryness or itchiness at bay. Oily or acne prone skin should avoid this method.

4. Less makeup: Makeup has chemicals. Your skin is sensitive post Holi, so it is better that you use very less makeup or opt for makeup with safe ingredients. Non-toxic makeup products are always the best choice.

5. Skinimalism: I know piling on skincare is a tempting procedure specially, if you are used to applying actives. However, for a few days, prior and post Holi, it is best to opt for a very minimalistic skincare ritual. I would suggest a 4 steps method with cleanser, active or treatment, Moisturizer & sunscreen. Moisturizers with sunscreen or tinted moisturizers will make it easier as you will not need 2 products or even a coverage product like foundation if you are opting for tinted moisturizer. So practically you can go for a 3 steps method.

So these are the ways you can keep your skin and hair protected and safe during Holi. Also it is better to keep it clean and green and choose safe colours to make your Holi and beautiful one. Happy Holi.
