11 . Kathy Griffin . Kathy Griffin is constantly getting herself in hot water, but she’s there because she speaks her mind and what she believes in. Life wasn’t always easy for Griffin growing up, and her relationship with her brother Kenny was strained. But her loving and supporting (and hilarious) parents supported her all the way, and became reality stars in their own right on My Life on the D List. She knew she loved comedy the minute she went to a Groundlings show, and she worked her butt off from then on out to better herself, her craft, and her routines. She obsesses about each detail, hoping that her fans get the most out of her sets and her humor.
Griffin’s commitment to LGBT rights has also made me gain unconditional respect for her. She’s attended Senate Hearings, hosted benefits, you name it – to fight for equality regardless of sexual orientation. When I attended her stand up show in DC a few weeks ago, she talked about confronting Michelle Bachmann at a Senate Ball the last time she was in DC, and her gutsiness in terms of standing up for what she believes is right and just was inspiring to me.
