Often considered to be one of the wonders of the world, Kerala is a place where scenic beauty becomes one with the enchanting culture of the state. Every season is commemorated with colors and rich sounds that satisfy the thirst of tourists who seek communion between the human emotions and pristine nature. Well known for the beaches, stirring hill stations and backwater cruises, in Kerala, you can let your instinct take over for good. The following are the top ten places that one should visit when in the “God’s own country.”

1. Alappuzha Backwaters

One of the important backwater tourist centers, the area attracts thousands of foreign travelers every year. The intricate network of canals meanders their way through the expanse of lush green paddy fields, imparting the charm of “Venice” albeit in the East.

There are quite a few tourist attractions in the area, including the Statue of Black Buddha or Karumadikuttan, which dates back to the 10th century. Located in Karumadi, you can feel the essence of Budhism that spread its charm in the 3rd century. Other than this, you can also visit the Mannarasala Sri Nagaraja Temple that is the center for the serpent gods. Located well within the adjacent hamlets, you will be able to feel the closeness of nature with man. Besides this, there is the Revi Karuna Karan (RKK) Memorial Museum that is an architectural marvel with lush lawns and exotic pond filled with water lilies.

5. Thekkady

The evergreen city is characterized for its low level of coastal hills and busy commercial alleyways filled with the locals. Of the major attractions located nearby, one can visit the Priyadarshini Planetarium and the Vizhinjam Rock Cut Temple.

8 Thrissur

The Cultural Capital of Kerala, the place is extremely popular for its cultural richness that exudes from the activities of the common people. The best time to visit is when the city is hosting the Thrissur Pooram festival. Besides this, you can also visit the following places:

9. Vagamon and Wayanad

These are the last two cities of the visiting places in Kerala. While the first one is another hill station located about 1100 metres above sea level, the second one is a city carved out of Kozhikode and Kannur districts. Vagamon also known as the ‘Scotland of Asia’ for it was the place found by British and considered a safe haven for tea plantations. Wayanand is the place where the paddy fields came to life.
