Top 10 Things You Should Know Before Adopting a Dog

By Jhilmil D Saha @jhilmildsaha
There’s a popular saying that goes “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love yourself.” This is very much true. Your life changes forever when you own a dog at least mine did. I grew up with her and then she left for a better place maybe amidst the clouds where angels fly. If you want to feel true happiness when you return home after a long day or want to see what loyalty feels like then adopt a dog without blinking an eye. If you are contemplating whether or not to adopt a dog then you should definitely do it. Here are 10 things that you should know before adopting a dog.
TOP 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE ADOPTING A DOG
1. The Five Fingers Of Our Hand is not the same: Yes, as you all know that all our fingers are of different sizes. Same applies for the dogs; each dog is unique and has different characteristics. It’d take time for them to get accustomed to your lifestyle. Do your homework before adopting a dog.

2. You Become a Parent As Soon As You Adopt a dog:
That’s right you become a father or a mother as soon as you decide to adopt a dog. You have to care for them like you care for your babies.
3. Stock Up on Essentials: Dogs need far more care and products than we do. You should stock up on belts, dog collar, grooming necessities, carrier, etc. If you want to take your dog out often get travel essentials. You can find a lot of essentials on https://www.dogproductpicker.com.
4. Medical Treatments: You have to make regular visits to the vet for the well being of your little paws. Make sure to give the vaccinations on time.
5. Diet: You have to be very careful about what you feed your dog. You can’t feed anything or everything. Go to the pet store, stock up on dog foods and treats. Research online and ask your vet what to give them. DON”T FEED THEM CHOCOLATES. THEY ARE POISON FOR THEM

6. Basic Training
: It’s important to train your dog. Ask help from an expert how to train your dog to pee, poop and vomit in the bathroom or outside. Also, make your dog interact with people so they stay calm in front of your known ones.

7. Trust Them:
When your dog shows strange signs or is barking without any reason then know there’s some sort of danger or problem arriving. It’s better to stay alert.
8. Love Them: Make sure to spend some time with them every day and pet them whenever you can. All they want is unconditional love. Cuddling with your dogs can also help release stress.
9. Don’t leave them alone: If you are planning to go on a vacation or work tour don’t leave them alone. Give your pet to a trusted one and whom he/she gets easily along with. Separation anxiety is common but it’s painful.

10. You have to say Goodbye:
Someone rightly said “dogs are not our whole lives but they make our lives whole.” Lifespan of these little babies are extremely short and we have to say goodbye. That’s the hardest thing about owning a dog. So, be prepared mentally for the goodbye.
These are something you should know before adopting a dog. Also, please try to avoid buying dogs from breeders as that is very cruel. The scenes that go behind are terrible. Try to adopt from a shelter or anywhere. Don’t think twice before adopting a dog because “A dog will teach you unconditional love. If you can have that in your life, things won't be too bad.” ~Robert Wagner
