My dear friend, Nicki, was the one who introduced me to Tom Waits. She always brings such amazing, new-old music to my attention...music that makes you feel like you're in a different place...like you're visiting an old, crumbling haunted house or watching storms on the beach. I remember when Nicki and I were first becoming friends...I was 14 years old. We would lay for hours on the floor of my room, our heads next to each other, listening to Mazzy Star or Led Zeppelin or Bob Dylan, both of our ears pressed up against my little stereo. She is in so many of my perfect memories.
Tom Waits has been my go-to black cat for all Sundays of leisure.
His cave man voice and old timey beat fill up a closed eye with fun
wanting. I picture soft grave stones and crunchy leaves howling in the
shadow. He is my Bob Dylan at night.
