If you spend a lot of time in the kitchen it is pretty likely that you’ve thought about starting a food blog at some point. Maybe you’re crafty with cooking from scratch, or you have a knack for altering prepackaged foods.

Maybe you want to share your trials with gluten free or sugar free cooking and/or baking. The point is, you love food and love cooking and you want to share it with others. If you are a definite foodie and you love to spend time online, here are some tips for starting your own food blog.

Find A Niche And Pick A Name

While you can blog about food in general, it helps to have some sort of a niche, like baking or gluten free cooking. If you are blogging about a food or type of cooking you are passionate about you will more likely be authentic in your posting.

It may help to have an idea about what you want to write about before picking a name for your blog. If it’s dedicated to sugar free you don’t want to name it something that only reflects the sugar part making people think they’ll find lots of sugar filled recipes.

You don’t always have to make it just about recipes either. If you have a an organic recipe site you might want to share great organic food finds, or maybe talk about what foods are more than likely GMO and which are the best choices in organic. Maybe you’ll want to share the best farmer’s markets you’ve been to.

Include Great Photos

Photos are an important part of a great food blog. People want to see what the finished product will look like. If your photos aren’t very good then your food isn’t going to look very good. Take some time to look into some tips on food photography.

According to this article practice can make you better. Good lighting is a must, and avoiding flash can help make pictures pop. Don’t add a lot of stuff to the photos, like silverware and placemats. You want the focus to be on the food. The more pictures you take the better chances you’ll get that one perfect shot.

People Love Recipes

If you are going to blog about food be prepared to share your recipes. If people see that strawberry cheesecake dump cake you made and you don’t tell them how to recreate it themselves they are going to stop coming to your blog.

Make recipes easy to read and use. Just pick up any cookbook and let it be your guide. Don’t forget to include all the ingredients they need and how long to cook it for. Your fans will be begging for more if you keep them stocked with new recipes for tasty dishes.
