Tips For Transitioning to Natural Beauty Products in 2019

By Alyssa Martinez @ItsMariaAlyssa

With 2019 right around the corner, many of us have already started thinking about our New Year's resolutions. For all you beauty fiends out there, it can be easy to mindlessly fill your bathroom with tons of makeup, hair, and self-care products throughout the year. However, there is a good chance that many of the products you use on a daily basis are actually not that great for you, and can sometimes even be damaging to your health. If you have room for one more resolution in 2019, consider making the switch to all-natural products. You'll thank yourself later!

Make Easy Swaps

Certain beauty products can be easily swapped with all-natural versions, so get these out of the way first. If you have very dry skin, try switching over to vitamin E or avocado oil. If you want to grow longer and stronger hair, toss those chemical-filled products and go for something like castor oil, which many people swear by in order to stimulate hair growth. If you usually use cheap, store-bought feminine products, consider signing up for a tampon delivery service that specializes in organic products instead. Swapping out the products you're currently using with all-natural, organic versions is an incredibly easy way to make a difference in your beauty regimen.

Don't Be Afraid to DIY

When in doubt, do it yourself! Many beauty and self-care products are super easy to create yourself, all it takes is a little patience and imagination! DIY body scrubs can often be more effective than store-bought ones, and they're pretty foolproof to make. To make your own body scrub, you'll need a glass container, salt, brown, or white sugar (depending on your personal preference), coconut oil, and an essential oil of your choice (lavender, vanilla, and peppermint are popular ones). Once you have combined all of the ingredients, transfer to your container and get scrubbing! Other beauty products, like lip scrubs, body butter, and even lip and cheek stains can be made in your kitchen, that way you know exactly what you're putting on your body. Making your own beauty products is a fun, hands-on way to get rid of the products you're currently using and switch to ones that are going to be good for you!

Do Your Research

While you shouldn't feel obligated to toss out your entire product collection in exchange for all-natural ones, you should be careful when purchasing products at the store. It is important to read the labels on products before buying them, to ensure that they don't contain any ingredients that could be harmful to you. If you have been using a generic drugstore , for instance, take a look at the back of the bottle and read the ingredients. Hair care products with sulfates, silicones, parabens, and dyes are unhealthy and can negatively impact the long-term health of your hair. The same goes for other products, including cleansers, moisturizers, and makeup. Reading labels and doing your research before heading to the store can help give you peace of mind that you're purchasing only natural, organic products that won't harm your body in the long run.
