Tinolang Tahong / Mussel Soup
Mussel is the common name used for members of several families of bivalve mollusks, from saltwater and freshwater habitats. These groups have in common a shell whose outline is elongated and asymmetrical compared with other edible clams, which are often more or less rounded or oval.
As of June 2022, the market value of such seafood is PHP160 per kilogram when you're located in Mandaluyong City. I usually bought it at Sierra Madre Wet and Dry Market, Brgy. Highway Hills, but I'm sure it is also available in your nearest supermarket - the seafoods' section.
Ingredients:
Ingredients of Tinolang Tahong aka Mussel are very accessible.- 1 kg mussels tahong, cleaned
- 2 cups spinach or hot pepper leaves
- 3 thumbs ginger julienned
- 1 piece of onion sliced
- 5 cloves of garlic pounded
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt or 3 tbsp fish sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 2 pieces long green pepper (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon of herbs (optional)
How to Cook?
Tinolang Tahong aka Mussel Soup is easy to prepare:- Heat a cooking pot and pour-in cooking oil.
- Saute garlic and onion.
- Add ginger and mussels, and then cook for a minute.
- Pour-in water. let boil. Cook for 5 minutes or make sure it is cooked.
- Put in the spinach or hot pepper leaves. Cook for 3 minutes.
- Add salt (or fish sauce) and pepper. Stir, together with herbs,
- Transfer to a serving bowl. Serve while hot. Share and enjoy
