The nights are drawing in and there is definitely a nip in the air, so now is the time to check that you are ready for the colder months. The chances are you have not worn some of the warmer and heavier items in your wardrobe for some time, so the first step is to check out what you already have.

Review your wardrobe
It is a good idea to take the time to throw, or give away, anything that you know you are not going to wear again. This will create space for your new clothes and let you identify any gaps in your wardrobe that you need to fill.

Buy the basics
In the past, I would have gone out and bought everything in one go. But, the fact that retailers introduce new lines every six weeks or so has changed my shopping habits a bit. Nowadays, I prefer to go shopping every month and add to my wardrobe gradually, but I always ensure I have the basics in place. At the very least, you need a good everyday coat, a couple of jumpers and a pair of jeans, or a good skirt and some heavy tights.

Women’s coats for 2016
This year I need a new coat. My favorite one is looking a bit worn and dated, so it is time for a change. This year’s women’s coats are stylish as well as affordable, so it is a good time to treat yourself to a new one.

Military style coats
If you want a heavy coat that will keep you warm during the commute to work, a military style overcoat is a great option. I particularly like the double-breasted kind, which feature big bold buttons.

An everyday coat
For walking the dog or taking a stroll with friends, I highly recommend that you consider a parka or duffle coat. These coats are usually made from waterproof material, and include a hood. As a result, they really will keep you warm and dry.

Smart tailored coats
There are also some lovely tailored coats available. Most of these are only thigh length, so they may not be suitable for everyday use, but they are great for a night out, and for those warmer autumn days.

Women’s jumpers for 2016
Right now, there are some fantastic women’s jumpers available online and in the shops. You can easily swap out your summer tops and replace them with similar looking knitwear.

Printed jumpers
For example, there are plenty of print jumpers available. I particularly like the animal print ones I have seen, but there are plenty of other patterns available, which makes it easy to find exactly what you are looking for.

Classy jumpers
If you want a classic jumper to wear under a jacket there are some good ones available. I particularly like the figure hugging Bardot jumpers. They look great, but you do need to be aware of the length because the longer ones will peak out from under your jacket.
As you can see, you are not going to have any problem finding coats and jackets to keep you warm this winter. There is already plenty of choice, and you can expect designers to add more as the season progresses.
