THUMPERS’ hyperactive pop sound feels evolutionary for both its unrelenting torrent of exuberance and thoroughly smart songwriting. Somehow gliding just beneath most of our radars, the London duo released their debut LP, Galore, last month via Sub Pop Records, who describe the LP as “a celebration of the breathless sensations of youth and coming of age.” As if they had so many excellent ideas that the sounds couldn’t contain them, every track on Galore explodes with energy and innovation. The percussive elements are varied, interesting and more carefully curated than the average pop song, and the vocals are almost always chorus-backed, adding body and quadruple the enthusiasm. Then there’s the lushness, which is what makes them fantastic — there are absolutely no spaces, no breathers, no sit-downs. Every song is a stand up and jump around, vibrant ride. Brilliant in a way similar to Alt-J, except the complete opposite in their total lack of restraint, THUMPERS is the next “It band” that totally deserve to shine bright on your radar if they don’t already.
