Three Meta, Missouri residents were killed in a semi-truck accident near St. Thomas, Missouri on Thursday evening.  Patrol reports that a 44 man, a 58 year woman and 12 year old were in a Ford Focus southbound on Route B about 1.7 miles south of Lower Bottom Road when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound International truck driven by a 53 year old Coulterville, Illinois man.

The three victims were pronounced dead at the scene and the truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Earlier reports said that the Missouri Highway Patrol had called in special crash investigators from St. Louis so details of the crash were not immediately available.  Cole County Sheriff Greg White said that his staff was working with the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Cole County medical examiner’s office in the investigation.

In fact, accidents of this nature generally take some time to fully investigate.  A thorough investigation helps determine many factors causing the crash.  Knowing the factors and causes of the crash assist authorities in future prevention efforts, determine liability and also assists victims’ families.  After an accident where someone was seriously injured or killed, it is difficult as a family or friend to know the first steps.  There are so many emotions and decisions to be made and most people are in shock.  It is best to get the most information that you can after such an accident and so you can make the best decisions as possible.
