At times, watching Theo and Sully out of the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of my own childhood.
On Friday nights, after a bath, I'd curl up on the couch in our family room. My brother would soon follow and together we would sit in crisp, clean anticipation for our weekend ritual - a bowl of Planters cheese balls and a small Tuperware cup three-quarters full of Coca Cola, our eyes glued to the television, to The Dukes of Hazzard.
Now, it's Pirate Booty and raspberry lemonade in Ikea cups and bowls, and the show of choice is Rescue Heroes. Everything else: the bath, cozy jammies, sibs side-by-side on the couch, is still the same.
I was thinking about my grandma today. One long fine thread, needled and held in her soft and delicate hand, pushing and pulling... My mom, aunts, sisters, cousins, myself, all a part of her embroidery.
Everyone deserves a beautiful and wondrous start.
