Thoughts on 12/21/2012
Don't get me wrong, when I said "it's pretty much business as usual (no Utopia, no Apocalypse)."I think we are sublimating as a species. We are becoming conscious of the energy that drives us and organizes us. 12/21/2012 was indeed a signpost along the way. It may be something of great significance from an historical point of view some time in the future. We just don't know now. But it was certainly an opportunity for us to reflect on new beginnings on a cosmic scale.I have to be honest and say that I was a *little* bit disappointed when nothing perceptibly 'novel' happened on that day, at least not to me. For all I know, there was mass sublimation of souls and nobody knows about it, not yet anyway."Evolution is the reverse engineering of God."I think we are collectively entering a new level of consciousness, a phase transition, that our connectedness with other beings, plants, animals, rocks, and stars will become much more apparent to our 'ordinary' waking and sleeping minds. At some point in our evolution, Homo sapiens developed the capacity for abstract, symbolic thought. That was a huge leap in our journey, but it did not occur all at once. It took many thousands of years. Then cultural evolution took over, or perhaps 'we' took over, and directed our own evolution, so to speak. And evolution has been increasing at a noticeably exponential rate for what - how many years? There have been a lot of 'boosters' along the way - the industrial revolution, the age of electricity, the age of information technology; it's all sublimating, become more and more complex and refined."The body is the refinery of the soul."We are made up of all this dense, base material. Yet it is wonderfully organized, and has been becoming more and more organized, complex, and diverse since life first appeared on the earth. Many of us live lives based in the dense material, all this matter. I'm one of them. I falter, I fail, I transgress. All the time. But I keep trying. When I do wrong, I try to make it right. I cannot live any other way. This is what you call "loving your fellow man," and I admit I have my failings in this department. So now we come to another juncture in our 'reverse engineering' of God, or whatever term you choose. We are becoming aware, not just of ourselves, but of everything around us. These are the days of instant karma, where everything comes back to bite us in a hurry. It's a transition in to objective being, not just objective thinking.I believe we are going through that stage now, and if history has anything to teach us, it's that this process will inevitably accelerate toward an event horizon. But perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps I am just using the old, mechanistic way of thinking to describe this whole thing. Perhaps what we have come to think of as "consciousness" has no limit at all, and is not subject to the laws of physics, or even mathematics.MP.
