I only have one thought this week. It's probably controversial but it needs to be said. There's a lot going on in the world right now and it's very heavy. All over social media I see uproar and outrage (rightly so). I also see a lot of pressure being put on people to make a statement and take a stand. I'm here to tell you that you don't have to.
You don't have to educate yourself, you don't have to make a statement and you don't have to take a stand. If you do not have the capacity or the desire to learn about the awful things going on in the world, don't. It's perfectly okay.
I don't think that organisations and influencers speaking up about issues they do not really understand is helpful. People who have a good knowledge or are affected, sure, make a statement. But don't say something just because you feel pressured to say something. You don't need to.
I've also seen people saying that we can't just ignore this, that if you ignore it you're condoning it. That is incorrect. Take me for example. I am at total capacity dealing with my life. I have no capacity to take on anything else. Small issues and setbacks feel huge to me. There is no way I have the emotional or mental capacity to read about what's going on in the world. I can't do it. It would tip me over the edge and send me spiralling. I know this, so I stay away. I have chosen not to educate myself and that's perfectly okay.
In situations like this it's okay to do what's right for you. Me sending myself into a downward spiral is not going to help or change the situation. It's only going to make life really difficult for me and my family.
So, if you don't have the capacity to learn, speak or make a statement, that's okay.
