As I’ve mentioned before, every now and then on Fridays instead of just talking about Fashion Foresight™, I’m going to use this opportunity to tell you about workouts I’ve managed to fit in. So from now you’ll find Fit & Fashion Foresight Fridays.
This week i’ve learned a valuable lesson, if I want a good workout I have to do it alone. If I want a long workout, where most of it is spent holding my toddler then I can workout with him! Everytime I’ve tried to fit in a workout when he’s been awake a 15 minute workout turns into a 2 hour session. So from now on I’m waking up earlier
This week I managed to work-in the following workouts:
Tuesday
Pop Pilates
Ever heard of Casey from PopPilates? She’s fantastic! I’ve been following her for a few years because she offers 10 minute workouts on youtube (lots and lots of them). So if I can’t find 30 or 40 minutes I can always work in one or two 10 minute workouts.
i did this beginner inner thigh pilates workout on Tuesday
Tiffany Roth
Then I followed it up with a 10 minute “Booty Shaking” waist workout by Tiffany Roth (another youtube fitness guru that I really like). This one I FELT THE NEXT DAY and it’s only ten minutes!
Then I wasted time with some mommy and baby workouts, that I don’t recommend. My son doesn’t sit still and some moves become dangerous for me and him, because he moves or shifts his weight.
Wednesday
Wednesday for some reason i was up at 5am, so I had an espresso and did this workout by
Bikini Model Fitness
She looks all sweet and delicate, but this woman is STRONG. When she starts to hold the weight bar all I could think was that she had legs stronger than a donkey.
The next day I hurt. Then i did a workout by the
POPSUGAR Training Club
A 5-Minute sexy, sculpted arm workout to be precise.
Not the best workout, I won’t be repeating. I didn’t like the vibe between the hostess and the trainer. However, by doing both workouts back to back without my little man I only spent 20 minutes working out and I actually got in a full 20 minutes!
Thursday
Sweating to the Oldies
I used to sweat to the oldies with my mom and sister in the living room, growing up. I have every single Richard Simmon’s workout memorized, and have often surprised friends with the fact that I can sing along to any tune that came out of the 50s, 60s and 70s.
I thought I’d share the joy with my son, and so I found this on youtube.
Together we take a weekly music class called Music Together, so I thought “same difference no? Sweat to the oldies with Richard Simmons or structured music class specifically formulated for a toddlers musicality”, he’ll LOVE sweating! Needless to say Richard DID NOT go over well, and he clung onto me and kept saying “no mamma, mamma no, no no no”.
But I’m not giving up on Richard, next week I’m going to try to fit in another oldie workout.
Pop Pilates
After I put him down for his nap I did another 30 minute workout with PopPilates, which was pretty good.
My ribs hurt the next day. That’s strange, no? My ribs and my thighs! I’ll be doing this workout again, but I do modify a few moves, because I am carefull about lunges and my knees.Casey’s pilates style is very dynamic and not very form focussed so risk of injury is high.
And that’s it. This weekend I’ll be working out again but for 20 minutes max.
As you can see I’m a lazy workout kind of girl. I stopped going to the gym years ago when I realized that I wasted so much time.
This is what the gym represents to me:
Driving there, parking, getting dressed without letting my skin or clothes touch any of the surfaces, filling up my water bottler, remembering to change up the music on my iphone, oh no I forgot my lock, asking the front desk for a lock, that’ll be $5, ok here you go, go back to the change room, at some point I’d do a workout, back in the change room, open the locker, get showered and changed without touching any surface, put everything in zip lock bags so that my shower sandals don’t touch my hair brush and vice versa, dry my hair, do my makeup, dress without letting my socks touch the floor, spend 5 minutes chatting with the woman at reception, going out to the car but needing to pee, going back in the change room to pee without ever letting my butt touch the seat, finally driving home, parking in Italy which means finding an illegal spot on the street 15 minutes away from my apartment, walking home, taking everything out of the ziplocks so that I can wash the ziplocks and shower sandals and clothes and towels, refilling all the mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
That’s like 3 hours of time for a 40 minute workout. Now I have to go through this whole ordeal every time I take my little guy to the swimming pool for his swimming lessons, I don’t even want to THINK about repeating it for a no-good reason like a 40 minute gym class.
Besides, I love doing my workout thing in my house. It’s short, if I dislike what I’m doing I can change it up and I always let my butt touch the seat.
