This summer, update your home and garden with a little reworking of traditional decor. Home decorators love curtains for their versatility; whether they are light and airy fabrics that brighten a room or they are lusciously plush curtains that protect from the cold slipping into your home. Of course, curtains are a perfect accessory to dress up our windows, but curtains can also be used to update other rooms too. Here are five fresh and unexpected ways to use curtains in your home decor this season:

Use Sheer Panels to Create a Romantic Headboard

By adding a few sheer layers behind your bed, you can create a backdrop and canopy that is both soft and elegant. Install low-profile curtain rods from the ceiling, one for the backing to hang against the wall and the other for the canopy to hang over the bed. The result will be a striking addition to your bedroom decor. The best part is that you can easily change the whole mood and color scheme of your room just by switching out the curtains. This is your chance to have fun and try new textures and patterns

Hide Unsightly Spaces with Solid Curtains

They say “pay no attention to the man behind the curtain,” and the same goes for spaces that don’t really flow with the rest of your home decor. Living in small spaces, we need to make do with what we have. Perhaps you have a small computer with a desk in your living room or a closet without a door; hanging curtains to hide these space is a perfect solution. The fabric diverts attention back to the visual flow of the room you are in. The other benefit is that when you are working at your desk you can keep the curtains open or close them for a bit of privacy.

Spruce Up the Garden with Breezy Canvas Panels

This season, if you are looking to entertain in the garden, adding unexpected fabric to the outdoor dining area is a great way to do it. They can be used on a lanai, outdoor room, porch, or cabana. They add gorgeous ambiance, as well as a bit of privacy. You can purchase curtains that are vinyl or canvas if your aim is towards privacy or hanging insect deterrents, or you can choose colorful flowy patterns to make your garden party an enchanting affair.

Adorn a Tub with Luscious Patterns

Shower curtains are perfect for keeping water contained with in the shower, but they do not have to be unsightly! Whether you are lucky enough to have a stand-alone tub or conventional tub and shower, adding long curtains from the ceiling can add a traditional yet sophisticated touch. You can leave them open during the day and close them for privacy when the tub is in use. Try beautifully framing your tub with a pair of curtains that enhance your decor instead of detracting from it.

Graciously Divide Rooms or an Open Space

If you have an open concept floor plan or rooms that lead into one another, divide them with long curtains. They will turn a practical use into a statement piece within your home. Kids sharing a room? Let them choose their own fun patterns and watch how excited they get at the thought of their own special space.

Curtains can be used for so much more than windows. This summer, opt for bright colors that add fun and flair to unexpected spots in your home, and don’t be afraid to try tons of different angles and configurations. Curtains are a low cost and easy way to give your home a facelift this summer!
