This is Chiraq: 6 Killed, 31 Wounded in Labor Day Weekend Shootings

From MyFoxChicago: Six people were killed and at least 31 others have been wounded in shootings across the city over Labor Day weekend, according to Chicago Police.

The most recent fatal shooting happened at 9:32 a.m. Monday in the Englewood neighborhood. The 24-year-old man was shot in the head in the 6800 block of South Emerald, according to Chicago Police. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death.

A 26-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting, police said. He was shot in the right thigh and suffered a graze wound to his head. He was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized.

A police source said both men were documented gang members and that the 26-year-old was not cooperating with investigators.

A person who was possibly involved in the shooting ran into a residence on the block of the shooting, police said. A SWAT team was called and the building was cleared by 12:39 p.m. Additional information was not immediately available.

Before that, an 80-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound in the South Shore neighborhood, police said. The man was found outside on the ground about 6:20 a.m. in the 2800 block of East 77th Place, according to Chicago Police. He was shot in the face and pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but could not immediately provide additional information. Area South detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.

About 10:30 p.m. Sunday a teenage boy was killed in the South Shore neighborhood. The 17-year-old boy was standing outside in the 7800 block of South Cornell when two males walked up and opened fire. He was shot in the back and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The medical examiner’s office has not yet confirmed the fatality.

Earlier Sunday evening, a man was shot to death in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. Officers responding at 6:07 p.m. to a call of a person shot in the 5200 block of South Sangamon found the 19-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. His name has not been released.

At least 27 more people have been shot in Chicago since 9 p.m. Friday. Last year, 54 people were shot—8 fatally—over Labor Day weekend.
