By Eowyn @DrEowyn

I scheduled this post on Sunday afternoon. I’m sure the numbers will be higher after the fireworks last night.

I updated the total numbers this morning. Yesterday it was 3 killed and 32 wounded. Sadly, the number of people shot went up dramatically.

From MyFoxChicago: Two men were killed and at least 34 more people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The most recent fatal attack happened late Sunday in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side. Officers responding about 10:50 p.m. to a call of a person down in the 2200 block of South Lawndale found the man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the back of the head, according to Chicago Police. His exact age was unknown.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, lying on the ground in a lot across the street from Paderewski Elementary Learning Academy. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released his name.

Early Saturday, a man was killed and another wounded in an East Garfield Park neighborhood shooting on the West Side.

Hector Badillo Jr., 31, was standing outside an auto repair shop about 3:30 a.m. in the 700 block of North California Avenue when a gunman came out of an alley and opened fire, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. Badillo, of the 400 block of North Trumbull, was shot in the neck and pronounced dead at the scene at 3:41 a.m., authorities said. Family members said his father owned the repair shop.

A 44-year-old man sitting in a car nearby was shot in the left leg, police said. His condition was stabilized at Stroger Hospital.

The latest nonfatal shootings happened within minutes of each other Monday afternoon on the South Side.

About 1:30 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was driving in the 1500 block of West Garfield when another vehicle pulled up to him at a stop sign and someone inside opened fire, police said. A bullet grazed his shoulder, and he was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Fifteen minutes earlier, someone shot a 27-year-old man in both legs in Princeton Park’s 200 block of West 95th Street at 1:15 p.m., police said. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park in fair condition.

At 1:09 p.m., a person was shot in the right leg and buttocks in the 9800 block of South Ingleside in the Pullman neighborhood. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, but police did not have more information.

At least 30 more people have been shot in separate attacks across the city between 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Monday. Additionally, police say a man fatally stabbed his brother in self-defense early Saturday on the South Side.

At least 63 people were shot over the Fourth of July weekend in 2015, leaving 10 dead.
