If I stood in the batters box and got plunked in the head as a pinch hitter tomorrow, I'd have accomplished more than Lombo has in a Pirates uniform.
Gorkys didn't make much sense when he was called up, but he is now the only guy not named Cutch who I would feel comfortable with in center. That said, he's not someone I love the idea of coming in as a pinch hitter.
Ishikawa is serviceable I suppose, but probably not ideal as your first or second bat off the bench.
Stewart is of course, solid.
How do I fix it?
I think they should consider Delmon Young. Not good in the field, not good at the plate this season, but he's got something of a track record as a guy who does well with a mid-season change of scenery.
I'd also consider bringing up Alen Hansen. I don't think you want him wallowing away on the bench long term, but some reps in the majors could prepare him for a much bigger role next season. They could also start him at second against lefties.
Tony Sanchez could serve as the emergency catcher and free up Stewart to pinch hit earlier in games.
Jose Tabata is at least hitting for decent average
IMO, all four solutions improve the bench.
