All the smart School Counselors I know always say that humor is important for self-care. Especially in our profession. Since they’re so smart, I tend to believe them.
I’m fairly new to the profession, generally speaking, and I’ve managed to keep my humor intact. I need to because I’m in this for the long haul people!
One of the things most adults learn to use is a filter when it comes to what they say out loud. Particularly for School Counselors – the caring, kindhearted, helpers of the school – it seems we’re held to a greater degree of filter use. We always have to be conscientious of what we say and to whom, in order to keep good working relationships with everybody.
Well, I don’t know about you, but there are times when I want to throw my filter away and say what’s really on my mind.
