Some acts, even on a side stage, are so anticipated at a festival that you're worried the set will be anticlimactic. That could have been the case with Wolf Parade... but it wasn't.
From the second the band walked out onto the stage, to the final note of the final song, the assembled crowd at the WayBright stage was all in on what Wolf Parade had to offer. The energy and bouncing and jumping and dancing and singing were all at super high levels, in an hour plus that a lot of people were really looking forward to.
With their 5 year hiatus behind them, the indie rockers looked well prepared to turn things back up again. They were tight with their set, they were engaged with their fans, and they knew exactly what they were doing at WayHome. And while none of that should be surprising given their history and track record - it was really, really great to see with our own eyes.
The boys played through a mix of old favourites and new songs, as a couple thousand very sweaty people had a very good time.
Sometimes the things we look forward to the most are nothing but memories... but sometimes, like Friday at WayHome, the things you look forward to the most meet all of your expectations and remind you what you loved and why you loved it in the first place.
If and when you get the chance to Wolf Parade in the near future, take it. Not only do they still have it, they've got it in spades.
