There’s Gold Beneath Your Feet

Be Here Now

You may not believe me, but experience has taught me that the more we focus on our circumstances and make note of what’s wrong, what’s less than, what’s not up to par - the more the universe delivers more of the same.

By talking incessantly about how awful it all is, you are sending out the message: More of this shit, please. What you focus on is like placing your order at a drive-thru. If you want a double-double with cheese and onions, protein style, don’t ask for a toasted bun and a glass of tap water.

You think I’m kidding.

I’m not.

Bitch, bitch, bitch

Human beings are vibrating force fields of energy. We draw in, what we put out.

Have you ever noticed (be honest) that the people who bitch the most, have the most life experiences to bitch about?

Why is that?

Because they’re living in the ungrateful state of ‘poor-poor-pitiful-me,’ wondering why the world’s largess is being delivered in the county of  ‘gawd, it’s a gorgeous day, isn’t it?’

Both types of folks are living in the saha (ordinary) world. It is the choices they are making, in terms of energy and focus, that make the difference.

What’s Wrong with Me?

For a long-ass time, I just didn’t get this concept.

I sat around — all sad-sack, feeling f*cked up — thinking that somehow everyone else managed to board the gravy train, while I was stuck on the sidelines, dumpster-diving for a few meager scraps.

“What’s wrong with me?” was my mantra.

Well, first off, that.

Sitting around in your shitty diaper complaining about the stench, changes nothing.

Why do I have to change my shitty diaper?

Why can’t some nice mommy figure come along and rescue me?

Where’s a sugar daddy when you need one?

If you want your life to change, you have to change it.

Change Your Perspective, Change Your Life

So, now, more often than not, when something less-than-awesome happens, the first thing I do is assess the situation. (Well, maybe I stamp my foot and shout, F*ck, first.)

What can I learn from this colossal pain in the ass? How can I transform these feelings of victimization? What action can I take to find relief?

First up: gratitude.

Being grateful for even the most awful circumstances, opens up possibility for us.

I know. It’s tough to thank the universe for a lost job or a car wreck or for breaking one’s face by slamming it into the sidewalk. I speak from personal experience. It takes a certain amount of willingness to be vulnerable and lost and in need of assistance to do that. It takes a willingness to accept that we do not control everything, or, often, understand why things happen until much, much later.

Be grateful, anyway.

You are still here. You must have a reason to be here. Still.

Second: look for the lesson or the gift.

What can I learn from a broken heart? That I can survive it. That I am stronger than I think. That it is better to take a risk, than risk nothing.

What does depression teach? Compassion for the deep suffering of others.

What does unemployment offer me?  A chance to be grateful for everything.

If we can’t look at exactly where we are, and see it as the place from which everything can change, we need to get our eyes checked.

The only moment we have is this one.

Let’s make it count.

For anyone looking for great, transformative programs that might assist in overcoming any and all kinds of stinking thinking, consider EFT (free videos galore on YouTube), Mindvalley, The Chopra Center or countless books by Marianne Williamson, Debbie Ford, Caroline Myss, Wayne Dyer and others. If you are broke, hit the library.  There are treasures there.
