It seems like the efforts made in 2015 by The Weeknd is really paying off in the new year. Because the Alternative R&B crooner scores an Oscar nomination at the 88th annual Academy Awards, for His chart-topping hit “Earned It” off the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.
The song is nominated in the Original Song category. His fellow nominees include Lady Gaga and Diane Warren (“Til It Happens to You” from The Hunting Ground), Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes (“Writing’s On the Wall” from Spectre), David Lang (“Simple Song #3” from Youth), and J. Ralph and Antony Hegarty (“Manta Ray” from Racing Extinction).
The Weeknd took to his twitter account and tweeted out, “It can’t get more surreal than this. thank you for the recognition @TheAcademy . truly a proud moment.” Coongrats are in order for The Weeknd, Lady Gaga and more for being nominated at this years Academy Awards. May the best song win.
