The Reason I Dressed
Last week we strolled to the Piazza and we happen to come across the Antiques Market that was happening!
I remember, going to the Antiques Fair in Toronto once with my older sister. At the time, I was 17 and living with my parents way out in the country in a distant suburb of Toronto. At the waterfront there was the Antiques Market every weekend in a warehouse/parking garage type of structure and I remember it being massive! My sister treated me to my very first antique finds; a beautiful glass beaded purse, an antique 5 string, ebroidered pearl necklace and a big bejeweled enamel bracelet. All three of those pieces I still have to this day, and they started my love affair with all things “vintage”.
Vintage – wear it again for the first time
You don’t need me to tell you that all things “vintage” are trending right now. Look at the phenominal success that vintage shops on Etsy are having!! Italy is no different, and one of the chicest Vintage boutiques here in Italy is A.N.G.E.L.O‘s, which specializes in luxury vintage finds. Walking into one of their stores is like walking into a museum of Italian brands, with the difference being you can walk out in anything you see! Here you’l find a real 70s, double breasted wool skirt from Cèline for $747, sunglasses to suit every vintage taste and a vintage Hermes jumpsuit at the cool price of $2,000!
Even the big designer brand retalers have started commercializing the vintage wave. This online luxury brand retailer has a whole “authentic” vintage section. Needless to say if I had money to spend I would be way more inclined to get myself ALL of these items.
Click here to open the gallery.I’m going through a phase where I am so much more attracted to vintage than I am to “pop” clothing right now. Maybe it is because a new H&M AND Zara just opened up in Modena, so they are no longer special to shop at. Especially because I HATE having the same thing/wearing the same thing as someone I know, and in a medium sized city where everyone is shopping at H&M and Zara that is bound to happen.
#boughtsomething
You may remember that a few months ago I vowed to go on a 100 day shopping ban, and then as I was switching out my closet with my spring and summer clothes I decided to stop shopping until I wore everything I owned!
Well I caved. Vintage…… it gets me EVERY time.
At this Antiques Market I bought a pair of Vintage sunglasses, which incidentally, all of my favourite sunglasses are vintage, like this pair I wear non-stop.
As I was saying, I bought a pair of great vintage sunglasses for 15 euro, a vintage wicker and leather bag for something like 10 and a beautiful necklace that looks like something right off the MiuMiu runway for this season.
After the market we strolled through Modena’s beautiful side streets, ate lunch at our favourite Egyptian place and then headed back home.
What I Wore
My floral t-shirt was a Fashion Foresight purchase from the December 2013 sales! It is from a discount fashion retailer here n Italy called Terranova and I paid less than 6 euro for it! On this particular day I am absolutely not glamorous. My unwashed hair is in a loose braid, my espadrilles from 2013 are faded and a little dirty (bought online from ASOS for under 15 euro!), my H&M pants are not ironed (but they are comfortable and were under 15 euro!).
The only “special” things I’m wearing is this incredible handmade fedora hat by Italian clothing brand Piazza Sempione (their collection is available online here) and my charm bracelets!. One charm bracelet is by designer Paris, France brand Reminiscence and the others were gifts from my mommy!!!
