The Today Show Cuts Off Janelle Monáe’s Black Lives Matters Speech

Last week Janelle Monae performed several songs for The Today Shows summer concert. Janelle took the time to dedicate a song to the victims that were killed by police brutality. But before she could finish her message The Today shows rude ass cut her off. VH1 reports Monáe was delivering her new song “Hell You Talmbout.” The song is a protest and tribute song to the victims killed by police brutality and help get all of America on the same page. Janelle started off.”God bless all who’ve lost lives to police brutality. We want white America to know that we stand tall today. We want black America to know we stand tall today. We will not be silenced!”  At that point, The Today Show anchor began to speak over her making the moment awkward. Watch what happens below.

NBC has not released a statement on why they cut off her speech. It’s really weird that NBC would cut her off when she’s making a point about how Black lives matter. But since they did this incident is getting even more press, which is a good thing.
