Brrrrr….I go away to Mexico for a business trip and come home to freezing temperatures and snow. I was fine with the freezing temperatures. I am not so fine with the snow. It was beautiful watching it fall, but having to drive in it this morning was a very rude awakening. It doesn’t seem that long ago when we finally got rid of our snow from last winter. I know I am not alone in fervently hoping this is not a taste of things to come.
Connor attended his cross-country banquet on Thursday. He lettered again, something none of us were certain would happen given his performances this year. Needless to say, Jim and I are very proud of him. Connor’s girlfriend has also proved to be a blessing. For the first time in three years, he has all of his assignments turned in on time and in full. She is keeping him focused on his schoolwork when Jim and I have been miserably failing in recent years. I hope he finally learns some decent study habits out of all of this!
Yesterday, Jim, Connor, and Holly ran in a 5K sponsored by Jim’s company. It was Holly’s first 5K, and she did really well with a final time of around 32 minutes. Jim ran a new personal record at 22 minutes, and Connor came in second place in the entire event. I stood around and cheered them all. There are plans to run in another 5K on Thanksgiving morning. It can’t be much colder than it was yesterday, so it will be interesting to see how much they improve their times in two weeks. I suspect this is going to become a monthly event for the three of them. If I can get my weight down and off the statins, perhaps I can join them in spring.
I’ll admit, between work and the kids, the house, the dogs, and everything else going on these days, I am struggling in the book department. I still enjoy reading, but I find it very difficult to remain focused on the words of any books. Even traveling this week on five different flights, I couldn’t immerse myself in a book like I normally do. I don’t know if I need some time off or need to read better books. I’m hoping this passes soon as everything settles down in the colder months. In the meantime, if you notice no new reviews, it’s because I have not finished a book to be able to write a new review!
Speaking of reviews, I do have a couple to write and some paperwork to finish after piling up this week in my absence. I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday. Stay warm and dry!
