The Stories Behind the Doors

By 1258miles @1258miles

I spent a good two and a half years here without ever thinking there is a real story behind the colorful doors. Only a while ago I gave this a proper thought and found out there is two stories that are told about the history of the doors.

One of them says that after the death of Queen Victoria, the Irish people were ordered to paint all the doors black to show signs of mourning. However being the rebels they are, the Irish decided to paint the doors with beautiful, bright colors instead.

The other story tells that one night an Irish fella had one or two too many and mixed up a couple of doors, ended up sleeping with  a lady from next doors. The man’s wife went and told all the women to paint their doors with different colors, to keep the men faithful.

Which ever the right answer is, one can always think that the colorful doors tell great stories of the various people living behind them. Often, when I wander past these doors I imagine the lives of their owners. My favorites are the rare colors. The orange, purple, lime green and pink. There are great artists living behind lime green doors. Sometimes it’s nice to see a fresh, white door. I call them the wedding doors. I always try to find a pair of doors with the colors of some country’s flag. I’ve found about 15 of them already. One of my favorite pairs of doors always makes me smile, People living in those apartments must be living happy lives.
