We've finally found the key to happiness, and it was right under our nose the whole time!
Weber Grills held their 25th annual GrillWatch™ Survey, and the findings might surprise you. I bet you didn’t know that grilling was the key to conquering the blues. According to their results, 56% of grill owners feel happy when they fire up their grill.
Overall, the act of grilling inspires a whole range of positive emotions. The survey found that 55% of survey participants felt relaxed, 29% had a sense of accomplishment, 28% felt excitement, and 25% felt adventurous. Those are strong reactions for the typical backyard griller.
The annual GrillWatch™ Survey has been tracking America’s grilling habits for 25 years, but this is the first time they’ve asked about people’s emotions when firing up the grill. The usual questions ask where they grill, when they grill, and what they are grilling.
The gist of the survey reveals Grilling = Positive Emotions. Here are some other findings:
- Sixty-four percent said that grilling relaxes them after a stressful day.
- Seventy-seven percent of grill owners said grilling is fun.
- Seventy-five percent agreed that grilling makes a boring, weeknight dinner a special occasion.
- Forty-eight percent of grillers said that grilling reminded them of happy memories about growing up and watching their parents grill.
Of the 1,000 grill owners sampled in the United States, 50% were female, and 50% were male. All were over 21 years old and own one of the following: a charcoal, electric, or gas outdoor grill or smoker.
Other Results from the 25th Annual Weber GrillWatch™ Survey:
- Seventy percent of people in the U.S. own an outdoor barbecue grill.
- The top four things that grill owners like best about their grill include: ease of use (20 percent), grill size/capacity (16 percent), features/materials used (12 percent), and cooking capability/efficiency (12 percent).
- One-half (50 percent) of American grill owners say they prefer grilling outside over cooking indoors.
- Seventy-eight percent of grillers under the age of 35 say they grew up with parents who grilled, compared to 43 percent of those 55 and older.
