the Prohibition of Real Food

We met some of our best friends for drinks at a local spot last night. I love this place. It's a nod to the Prohibition era speak-easy bars and everything is made in-house, with a ton of variety. The lights are low and it's the perfect environment for conversation. Inside the menu I found this quote, which perfectly defines part of the reason that I started this blog two years ago.

the Prohibition of real food "For a state....to attempt to control what the people shall eat and drink and wear...is tyranny and not liberty."

The thinking behind Prohibition is the same as the thinking behind the FDA raiding small organic farms and throwing out thousands of dollars worth of organic produce and raw milk.

It's control disguised as protection.

I can only hope that we will learn from our past, and not continue to repeat history. For me this is not only an issue of health, but one of freedom, which has increasingly become more dear to my heart than these health issues over the past year.
