The Problem with Free Websites

Posted on the 11 February 2013 by Linsibrownson @CleverSpark

Don’t be that business with a free web site.

But it’s FREE! How could anything be wrong with something that is free?

Let’s think about it.

  • What happens when you want to take your content, you know all those blog posts and pages you made, and move them somewhere else?
  • What happens when their site goes down?
  • What happens when your clients notice your site is a free site?
  • What happens when they go out of business (maybe in the middle of the night)?
  • What happens when they decide to charge you out of the blue?

You see when it’s free, you lose any say. You don’t own it and they don’t owe you shit.

Oh, but I can buy a website when I start making mega dough as a designer to the stars.

Pffft. I bet you won’t be winning anyone over with your free web site. And if you set up a free site to only move it later all that internet street cred you built up, dies. And a Smurf dies.

Here’s a truth you must accept.

You can’t be a cheap ass. You must invest in your business like the professional you are.
