TAKEAWAY: From time to time we hear ourselves singing the praises of the printed newspaper and its ability to get us unplugged and disconnected from the world. A video shows us how intense that disconnect can be.
Note: As I take my first summer vacation June 5-14, TheMarioBlog will stop publication today and will resume June 17
Low and behold, ink on paper is the perfect formula for a total disconnect.
When we read a book, magazine or newspaper in print (as opposed to in its digital variations) we can isolate ourselves momentarily from the world at large.
Yes, you can sit by the fireplace, under that palm tree by the beach, or, as many do in summer, poolside enjoying a mojito, while reading the newspaper, in total peace, knowing there will not be a prompt, a beep or an alert about a Facebook response, an incoming email, or breaking news.
And now this video shows us that we do disconnect while reading a newspaper, especially as passengers in the back of a car, ignoring the world around us.
Take a look at the video and ask yourself if you, too, remove yourself from the outside world as much as these readers did, while reading their newspaper.
The power to disconnect with the printed newspaper has gained new visible evidence.

Paris Match in the streets of Paris
Those press kiosks in the corners of main streets and boulevards of Paris are as much a part of the Parisian landscape as the guy walking swiftly with his beret on and a bag from which two or three baguettes protrude.
This week, one can see the giant poster like image of Paris Match’s cover, the first since the iconic magazine “refreshed” its layout and design, while adding new content.
Thanks for Editor in Chief Olivier Royant for sending me this image to transport us there.
Street sales are alive, as this image shows.
