One of the best things about returning from honeymoon in December is that you get to skip the post holiday blues and skip straight into the excitement of Christmas. I often associate different seasons or destinations with a particular cocktail, (my honeymoon will forever be remembered for delicious pineapple daiquiris). Last Christmas was all about champagne with a generous dollop of raspberry sorbet topping. So, it’s time to create a shiny new drink for the festive season and Waitrose Cellar have challenged me to put a unique twist on a Christmassy classic. Eggnog! I had no idea what eggnog actually was before making it. To be honest, I’m still not entirely sure what it is but any drink that shares the same ingredients as a cake is good news in my book.
To be honest, this is less like a Christmas cocktail and more like a liquid dessert. Many people are divided when it comes to eggnog. Some can’t imagine the holiday season without it, some cringe at the idea of drinking it. I agree, the idea of drinking eggs is slightly odd but add a flash of bourbon and a generous portion of nutella and I have to say it’s pretty good.
In each glass you’ll need:
- Whole milk
- Sugar
- 1/2 cup of Nutella
- 1/2 cup of double cream
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 egg yolks
- 100ml of Courvoisier
What’s your signature Christmas cocktail?
