Terrible Towels are OK. Blankets, too. But the chief fashion accessory for many women — their purse — is now as welcome at Heinz Field as an entire section filled with Ravens fans.
And the only sacks permitted will be those performed by the defense.
In keeping with NFL policy, the Steelers are banning all women's purses this season, except wrist-type purses — clutch bags that are the size of a hand, or 41⁄2-by-61⁄2 inches, with or without a handle or strap.
All regular-size purses, camera bags, computer bags, back packs and fanny packs won't be permitted into Heinz Field for Steelers or Pitt games or any concerts. Diaper bags also are on the banned list.
Seat cushions are permitted but only if they don't have zippers or a seat back.
Steelers fans are being encouraged not to bring any bags to the stadium so as to hasten their entrance; all fans will be checked for metal upon entering. The only bags permitted are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags that do not exceed 12-by-6-by-12 inches and do not have excessively large logos, plus one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags.
Even the Steelers team purses that sell for $44.95 at the NFL's team store can't be brought in. But, conveniently enough, the Steelers and NFL.com are selling official NFL team logo bags for $9.95 apiece.
An exception will be made for medically necessary items. Fans required to bring them will pass through a special area located at every gate.
Each member of a family, including children, will be allowed to carry in an approved clear bag and a clutch purse.
And don't even think about bringing a Cleveland Browns cooler; no coolers or beverage containers — no matter the team logo — are permitted. They must be confined to a car trunk or the Dawg Pound.
