Chicago indie folk band The New Switcheroo have crammed quite a few genres onto their Heartless Sky debut EP, with three- and four-part harmonies as the glue to keep it together. With two old school melancholic folk songs (Lightning and Waltz of the Galaxy book-ending the set, they kick into high gear with the sexual innuendo of Pixelated, NM and raunchy rockabilly (NMR), with the country power ballad I Remember Clifford as a much well placed breather track.

This quartet is a hidden treasure deserving wider recognition among Americana and fans. Recommended if you like the sound of a violin howling at the moon and down home harmonies.

The New Switcheroo:
Kathryn Diana: violin, mandolin, vocals
Claire Feeney: piano, harmonica, vocals
Tim Hill: guitar, bass, vocals
Joanna P. Lind: drums, percussion, vocals
