Boyfriend and I love museums and history as well, so we have a long list of local sites we want to visit. Sunday, we crossed one off when we visited the Levine Museum of the New South. It's an interactive museum that offers a comprehensive interpretation of the South after the Civil War. They have a permanent exhibit called Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers, as well as a temporary exhibit about the segregation and de-segregation of schools. They have a vintage dress-up area, cotton you can turn from bushel to fluff, an antique barber shop, and even discussion areas where you can leave a Post-It with your thoughts. It was incredible!
[The Lance snack company started in North Carolina with his roasted peanuts!] [There was also a vintage Belk selection. It was hard to keep myself from drooling at those darling hats and shoes.][Sitting in the barber shop with antique LIFE magazines.]
[Just a few representations of the oppression African-Americans (and other minorities) have suffered through and overcome. So inspiring.]
[A telegram explaining that Dr. King was held up in Memphis, and would miss a meeting in Charlotte. He was assassinated in Memphis two days later. Surreal.]
[Wise words.]
