That lovable indie-rock trio, The Mountain Goats, are back with their first album in almost three years titled Beat The Champ. The album, dropping on April 7th, will be dedicated 100% to frontman Josh Darnielle’s childhood escape of professional wrestling. Carrying the classic Mountain Goats sound, the newly released single “The Legend of Chavo Guerrero” is an upbeat ballad focusing on the wrestling hero of Darnielle, and how Guerrero affected him in his youth. If the single is any indication of how the rest of the album will fall into place, then we’re ready to break out our old wresting VHS tapes and relive the past. Beat The Champ is ready to put the crippling chokehold of childhood nostalgia and The Mountain Goats back into the spotlight.
