Though currently touring much larger venues with Mumford and Sons, The Maccabees decided to play a smaller headlining show at Le Poisson Rouge during their visit to New York. It’s been a while since their last album, Given It To The Wild, was released, and the crowd seemed genuinely pleased and excited to see them back.  “It’s nice to finally play a show in New York”, said Orlando (guitar/vocals). They played an alloy of tunes from the last 3 records: “Wall of Arms”, “Feel To Follow” and “Latchmere” were included, of course, along with “Pelican” as an encore. The band seemed to be in good spirits — laughing and smiling, interacting with fans.

With much enthusiasm, they played a few new songs off their upcoming album Marks To Prove It: “Kamakura”, anthemic “Spit It Out”, the next new single “Something Like Happiness” and explosive “Marks To Prove It”. As Hugo White (guitar/producer) said in an interview with NME, “These new songs are a reminder of why we started the band.” Keep your eyes open for their new record, out July 31 via Communion Records.
