Never mind the quality, feel the width!
I have a particular problem with restaurant recommendations which start with a description of how much food is served as opposed to whether the food was any good. This is one of my many pet peeves but perhaps the one which gets me most exercised when I get duped into paying over the odds for microwaved, packet, frozen food masquerading under the guise of ‘home cooked’. Yeah right! ‘Home cooked’ so far as it was cooked on the premises.
I perhaps am a food snob but I prefer to think that I am just careful about what I put into my body for fuel. Sometimes volume is not a substitute for quality. No strike that….volume is never a substitute for quality. Why in the rest of our lives do we view quality as important for technology, electronics, vehicles, jewelry etc but are prepared to throw down so much synthetic junk and call it food? Beats me.
Anybody who knows me will also know that I am not a bean curd eating yoga practicing reverse osmosis type of guy. I love my Guinness, my Chinese and Indian food etc and I am carrying a few pounds of ballast to get me through the hard times. That being said, I often wonder at the mentality of some people who serve up ‘cheap food’ on the internet in the form of verbosity and repetition via their content marketing. We live in an age where we have been trained not to listen, to need everything repeated several times before we believe the information has penetrated the skull.
We have developed a throw away attitude to most things and the idea that ‘if it’s important I will find out later anyway’ serves to cast a shadow on high quality content production. Catering to the lowest common denominator rarely proves successful in the long run.
I received a very large box in the mail today , a box so large I had to stop and think what it might be because I was not expecting something so big. When I opened it I found a very small box inside with lots of padding. In that small box was the item I had asked for!
It was bit like too many websites I come across, too much guff and not enough refinement.
see you on the long and winding road…… Patrick
