The Keg – Richmond: Lobsterfest’s Surf & Turf

By Foodobyte @foodobyte

Not sure what the special occasion was, but dad wanted to eat at The Keg – something we rarely do since we usually grill up steaks at home! Oh well, can’t complain :) It was apparently lobster season at The Keg, so we ordered the featured lobster dinners.

Complementary Bread

As with every meal, there’s warm bread served with whipped butter.

Surf n Turf

Tadaaaa! Here’s the beast of the feast: Sirlion Steak & Fresh, Half Atlantic Lobster ($37.95). Personally, I wasn’t quite fond of the plate presentation. While many restaurants do decide to plate simple, but they still retain a certain elegance. This, on the other hand, seemed simply boring.

Melted Butter

It’s also served with hot butter, which didn’t taste like anything quite honestly… Just extra calories!

Lobster

The lobster was packed with meat. It was like the chefs installed an underwater gym for the lobsters to get absolutely jacked!

Unfortunately, while the meat was indeed plump, there was just no flavor. As mentioned before, the hot butter was also void of any detectable flavour… this was a perfect example where “two wrongs do not make a right.” Like a shimmering gold fish, the lobster was nice to look at, it’s just not for eating.

Medium-Rare Steak

The steak, on the other hand, was absolutely amazing! It was lightly seasoned to accentuate the beef flavours.

Cooked to the perfect temperature, and oozing with juice… I’m getting hungry just writing this post! But, being the future dietitian that I am, I didn’t like the fact that there were so little vegetables! Okay yeah, there’s potatoes… but those are just calorie bombs.

Final Bytes

  1. Ditch the surf, devour the turf! In other words, just order steaks from the Keg!
  2. I didn’t include it in this review, but the Billy Miner’s Pie is AMAZING!
  3. The interior of this restaurant is pretty well-aged… but still comfy :)
