Hi beauties! I hope y'all enjoyed your weekend and that Monday wasn't too hard on you. Today was my first day back to work since surgery...it went by a lot quicker than I thought it would. Probably thanks to the pile of work that was waiting for me. Thankfully, I'm able to work from home (that's what I've been doing the last week and a half) so I wasn't too far behind.
Anyway, a lot of you have been asking me questions about my breast augmentation after seeing my pictures on Instagram:
Thank you SO much for all the sweet comments y'all left :) You guys are too good to me! Well I'm gonna break a few things down for y'all today. If you missed it, I talked about why I chose to get a breast augmentation in this post a few weeks ago.
- My thoughts/feelings about the surgery itself
This was my very first surgery ever. So I didn't really know what to expect as far as being put to sleep and all that. The surgery took about 45 minutes so it was a quick process. I stayed at the facility for about 30 minutes post-surgery to give me some time to adjust and wake up. The surgery itself was easy, because I was asleep. I don't remember much right after waking up...I was told that I ended up dancing with my anesthesiologist. That doesn't surprise me one bit, ha!
My doctor is about 2 hours and 45 minutes from where I live so I ended up staying in a hotel after surgery so that I could meet with the doctor Saturday morning so he could explain to me how to take care of my new girls ;) I'm really glad I didn't have to make the car ride home right after, because honestly I was in a lot of pain the first 3 days. The first day wasn't too bad, because I slept most of it due to the pain medication that I was on. I did start to feel nauseous, but my doctor also prescribed me medicine to help with that so I never actually puked.
The next 2 days I was just really uncomfortable. I was a special case (one of my breasts was 1/4" higher than the other...I had no clue until this surgery) so I had to wear a tight strap across my chest to help even them out for the first week a half...that made it hard for me to breathe sometimes, but I got through it. It was hard getting used to sleeping on my back the first few nights, too. By 5 days post-surgery I was feeling normal again, but still really sore and unable to do a lot of things for myself.
Thankfully, I had Adam with me the entire time. We both took the week off of work. He drove me to and from both appointments that I've been to so far. He made sure that I was taking my medications in order and on time. He cooked for me. Cleaned for me. Went on walks with me. Delivered my Father's Day gifts for me. He was a gem. I love him and am so thankful for everything he did for me! It is so important to have someone supporting you throughout the healing process so you can take it easy and follow the doctor's orders.
Here is Adam & I making the 3 hour trip to the doctor. We ended up getting a hotel and staying Sunday night because my appointment was early Monday morning.
Now, 10 days post surgery, I feel SO much better. I'm wearing a normal bra and I don't have to wear the strap anymore. I can take showers normally. I can reach my arms over my head and bend over without being in pain. There really isn't any PAIN anymore. Sometimes if I twist a certain way, there is some tenderness, but that's normal.
I got my stitches out yesterday, which was really exciting! I have one more appointment in July so that the doctor can check on my scars and take my "after" photos for his records. I got 325cc silicone-gel implants and my incision was at the base of the areola.
This is me right after having my stitches removed...modeling my "boob ID card" ...each boob has its own serial number ;)
- The importance of being really comfortable with your surgeon
I can't stress this enough: knowing and being comfortable with your doctor is so important. I went to my doctor based on a personal referral from a friend and I would choose him over & over again. He & his staff were so kind and they were quick to answer any questions. They also worked with the fact that I live kinda far from their office...we did my pre-op over the phone.
I went in for a consultation back in September and knew right off the bat that I wanted to go with Dr. DeLange. He was very personable and I could tell that he cared about me and not just the money that he was making off of me. I wasn't afraid to ask questions and he never made me feel like any of my questions were stupid.
One thing that stood out to me: he met me at his office the day after my surgery, which was a Saturday, and they are only open Monday-Friday. He did this since he knew I lived so far...that way I wouldn't have to make an extra trip down to see him. When a doctor goes out of their way and interrupts their personal live for you, you know they have compassion for their patients.
If any of you live in my area and are interested in where I had my procedure done:
Dr. DeLange at Estetica Institue of the Palm Beaches in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
- How I feel post surgery
OH MY GOSH, y'all. I can't even put into words how happy I am with the results.
Please, please know that I am not one to think that outer appearance holds more importance than what's on the inside of someone. It's actually the opposite. I truly think that beauty shines from the inside out. But having this surgery gave me the confidence that I wanted. I'm able to shine brighter now. I feel so much more womanly with the curves that I have never had.
I have zero regrets about having the surgery done. Adam & I went shopping yesterday to buy some new clothes to fit the girls and I just had so much fun shopping knowing that I love every part of my body. I am so comfortable in my own skin and I feel like I'm radiating happiness more than ever. I love what I see when I look in the mirror, and that is so important to me since I lost a lot of weight and worked hard to get where I am today.
I never would've thought that having this procedure done would have made me feel as good as I do. If you're on the fence about it, I say GO FOR IT! Just make sure that you are doing it for you :)
The damage we did post-shopping trip...
Side note: Adam is the ultimate shopping buddy!
- What this means for Glisten/what my workout schedule looks like now
Obviously I can't jump back into hardcore working out right away. This has actually been the hardest part for me, since I'm a personal trainer and really into living a healthy lifestyle that is very active. I have to take about 4 weeks off from lifting weights and I can't run or do any strenuous workouts yet. Instead of moping and just being lazy about the situation, I'm focusing on eating as clean as I can and easing my way back into working out..even if it's a little bit at a time.
Right now I'm walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes every day. I put the incline on 15 and the speed at 3.5 MPH. I can't have too much bouncing action...ha! I'm also doing lots of squats, lunges, and other lower body exercises. I'm just now incorporating ab routines back into my schedule. I can't do arms or chest for a good while.
So Glisten...don't y'all worry! It's still coming later this summer! The website is about done (I have to do a photo shoot so I can have my picture in the header) and I've been planning my butt off. Adam & I are going to start recording some videos after the 4th of July. I'm going to do the best that I can until I am fully recovered! Thanks for being patient with me!

Today was the first day that I got dressed in something that wasn't elastic at the waistband, did my hair, and my makeup...welcome back to the reality of going to work, ha! I woke up and hit the gym this morning, too!
And that about wraps it up! If you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email :)
