The Four Corners Monument: Being in 4 States at Once

By Jeska @WandererJeska

Four Corners MonumentWhen I was younger the movie “A Walk to Remember” came out. I watched it, cried over, and loved it. I immediately went out and bought the book to soak up more of what Nicholas Sparks wrote in the story. One of my favorite parts of the movie was when Landon decided to take Jamie out to fulfill all of her bucket list. One of the items on her list was to be in two places at once. Though simple, it was something I thought was super neat so imagine my surprise when I found out about the Four Corners Monument.

The Four Corners Monument is essentially where 4 of our south western states(Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico) meet. Being that we have driven every direction through the United States, this was a destination I wanted to check out so that I could say that I have been in four places at once.

The monument itself isn’t that large. You see signs everywhere showing you where to head once you’re in the general area. Finally you pull down a dirt road to a building where the monument is directly in the middle displaying which state you are in. The flags of each state are flying high and the middle has a brass metallic plate letting you know you’re in the right spot.

The building surrounding the monuments have little shops set up where you can purchase local handmade goods. Mostly of Native American variety, there is jewelry to foods for you to chose from if you’d like a “souvenir” of your trip.

Though the monument wasn’t the most exciting thing in the world, it was still pretty neat being able to say I’ve been in four places at once. Walk to Remember goal checked off the list.

What’s one of your off the wall items you want to complete one day?
