The First of Three Releases from Scott Lawlor

The First of Three Releases from Scott Lawlor has hit the CerebralAudio website! Scott Lawlor makes his debut with us in his typical fashion: a massive three-part release comprised of well thought out, engaging and challenging music. Scott has become well known for picking scientific, social, natural phenomena, space based, or science fiction bassed subjects to explore through musical interpretation. Frequently these subjects are very focused, even if they have a deep scope. Experiments In Isolation is a perfect example of one of these subjects.

Scott Lawlor approached me on Twitter about releasing "...a rather minimal album called Experiments in Isolation." I was intrigued. He submitted an epic, three CD-length challenging release. When Scott says he has a "minimal album" he isn't referring to the scope, size or the concept of a project. Even the single track that comprises Experiments In Isolation One is 78 minutes long!

Experiments In Isolation digs into the complex scientific concept of Sensory Deprivation, which Scott interprets in a minimalist sound structure. Sensory deprivation is an interesting and controversial subject. Some psychological studies have shown benefits to using sensory deprivation as a form of therapy. While other studies have shown severe negative effects can occur when the human mind and body are isolated from external stimuli.

On this first part of the series, Scott Takes on the broad concept of this subject: Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy or REST as it is commonly known. REST is the name given to several different
treatments that have been used in studies over the last 50 years. The concept for these sensory deprivation based therapies were derived originally for military use in interrogating prisoners.
