Each week, the Filles bring you some of our favorite films finds of the week—news, reviews, features, interviews, tweets, new releases, etc.—just in case you missed them.
REEL GREAT READS
The Fille Files (January 9 - 14)
  • Exile from Guyville: The outsider heroines of The Hunger Games, Underworld and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Press Play) - An awesome analysis of the current crop of female film and TV heroines - girls who take no normal names (see: Lisbeth, Katniss) or crap from anyone, and look far beyond landing a guy.
  • Exclusive: Quentin Tarantino's favorite films of 2011  (The Quentin Tarantino Archives) - One of our favorite directors shares his top (and bottom) movies of the year including Midnight in Paris, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Artist and ... The Three Musketeers?! (We love Christoph Waltz too, but ... )
  • 'Rewind This' Trailer: The VHS revolution may not be quite over (Slash Film) - A trailer for what may be the best documentary of the upcoming year. It explores the life and slow death of the VHS and the people who are fighting to keep the home video love alive. NEVER FORGET.
  •  'Jack the Giant Killer' writer to pen 'Goosebumps' adaptation for Columbia (THR) - If this is paired, Grindhouse styles with an Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie, we might explode. Long live 1990s sorta kid-friendly horror.
  • Alan Menken remembers Beauty and the Beast (Toronto Star) - Theatre critic Richard Ouzounian talks to the composer, responsible for the songs that made Disney classics, about why Belle and her beautiful-on-the-inside boyfriend's tale as old as time is still as fresh as it did when it was first released.
  • Vincent D'Onofrio talks about his slasher musical, 'Don't Go in to the Woods' (EW) - This interview isn't world-rocking or anything, but it did open our eyes to the fact that there is a slasher musical coming out and it is being directed by Vincent Onofrio.

WEEKEND  WATCHES
The Fille Files (January 9 - 14)
  •  Contraband - Only because they make an open Italian Job reference in the trailer.
  •  Joyful Noise (Emily) - Dolly would.

TRAILER OF THE WEEK: ATM

Dumb title aside, there's so much to already love about this movie. First off, it features Josh Peck of Drake and Josh. Second, the killer looks like it raided the Urban Legend costume department closet. Third, high-concept, single-location thrillers are like so hot right now.
